Genet Loulseged’s Memorial Fund was established on march 1 2019 in memory of Genet Loulseged who founded New Life Community International (NLC) in 1994 to support disadvantaged and orphan children in Ethiopia with education. Genet’s project that started with 500 Norwegian crown, contributed by her Norwegian friends, developed through time to an integrated program of help for self help that constituted basic education, vocational training of disadvantaged women, clean water supply and sanitation and primary health service as well as fight against HIV/AIDS and female genital mutilation. The projects that were implemented in cooperation with NLC’s local partner covered a number of sub cities in Addis Ababa and three towns in South Ethiopia.
From the outset until she passed away after a short sickbed at the end of 2016, Genet has been pivotal in running both NLC in Norway and the local partner in Ethiopia. Therefore, NLC faced a big challenge of pursuing the project activities in Ethiopia as desired following Genet’s departure. After unsuccessful attempts to establish new partnership, it was decided to convert the NLC foundation to a fund in memory of Genet. The memorial fund is registered in Norway with the same registration number as NLC.
